Research has shown time and again that the only we can be truly healthy if our mental and physical health is at peace. That hat means we must prioritize taking care of our mental health in addition to our physical health. While experts lay down different ways to maximize our physical health, not enough attention is paid to maximizing our mental health. Here are some ways to implement a self-care routine that is sure to make our lives better.

Practice Meditation

We live very hectic lives and people in our circle can demand so much of our time and attention that we can get overwhelmed and lost. To recoup and ensure that our mental health remains intact, it's crucial to practice a bit of meditation. Find a quiet spot for yourself. It could be in your home, your office, or any other place. In fact, you can even join a meditation group to immerse yourself in the experience thoroughly. It might feel a bit odd, but by sticking to it, you can clear your mind and learn how to deal with stress.

Go Easy on Yourself

If you’re truly passionate about self-care, go easy on yourself. Just by doing that, you can eliminate a lot of negativity. Often, when we are down or things don’t go our way, we tend to blame and kick ourselves even more. That is the time to go easy and remind ourselves that we can be our own worst enemy. We need to forgive ourselves for the mistakes that we make and rise for a better tomorrow.

Don’t be Too Nice

Of course, that means you must draw boundaries and say no to people from time to time, but it’s worth it in the end because your mental health only becomes better.

Sleep Properly

Unfortunately, most of us these days believe that we are superhumans who don’t need sleep. In fact, you’ll find people around you who are proud of the fact that they didn’t sleep the night before or only got a couple of hours of shut-eye. This is a huge problem and can deteriorate your mental health significantly if you don’t take proper steps. It’s crucial for adults to get 7-8 hours of sleep without which we cannot function. So keep your phone aside and get into bed at a reasonable hour so that you can wake up and tackle the next day with a fresh bout of energy.

Cut Down on Social Media

I know it’s hard to believe, but we don’t need to be connected to our social media all the time. We don’t have to receive push notifications or emails alerting us that someone has commented on our post or liked our picture. We can live without the adrenaline rush, even though we don’t feel that way. It’s best to take a break from social media by switching on the Focus mode and blocking out the apps. Not only would it improve your mental health, but it would be an act of self-care unlike any other.

Me-Time

Sometimes, to take care of everyone, the person we ignore the most is ourselves. For the sake of your mental health, you need to take time for yourself, it can be a spa day, or it can be as simple as drawing yourself a bath. When you relax, you sleep well, you feel fresh, and you look beautiful.

Live in the Present

Again, it’s one of those skills that require a special kind of effort. Most of us are too obsessed over what we have done in the past and we also can’t stop fretting about the future. We must put a stop to that and focus only on the present. This approach would allow us to live in the present and enjoy every second of our lives. After all, the future cannot be controlled, and thinking about it will only compromise our mental health. Incorporating mindfulness into our self-care routine is sure to make matters easier for all of us.
